About the photograph collection "Our Day"
Since 1960, when I began my career as a professional photographer, this serial picture entitled "Our Day" has been my lifework for more than 40 years. In this series I have been trying to catch the images of vogue words of the times.
Vogue words symbolize our ambiguous characteristics shown in everyday life, and the words change their meanings as time goes by. For example, when the society was in a period of economic growth like 60's and 70's, the word "overpopulated" or "solidarity" was spread everywhere, while in the "bubble economy" period, more frivolous words were prevalent among the country.
Today, commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the San Francisco peace treaty, most of vogue words are related to our concern about the historical view on Japan and Asian countries.
